Blackburn Drama Club is always on the lookout for new members. There are many ways to participate from acting on stage to painting the scenery, from directing to selling programmes – all of them equally rewarding.

The process starts with the Play Reading Committee, who suggests a selection of plays, which are announced at the Annual General Meeting in the spring of each year.  Shortly after the AGM, there are a series of informal play readings, after which the Casting Committee meets and allocates parts for the forthcoming season.  The Club strives to give everybody a part (that wants one), at the same time maintaining our high standards of performance and production.

Rehearsals usually take place six to eight weeks before the week of the performance.  Before rehearsals start the Production Team gets together to discuss every aspect of the production: this includes the Director, Production Manager, Stage Manager, Set Designer, Sound and Lighting Technicians, Props and Wardrobe.  Each person has an important part to play in the smooth running of the production.  Later on, the Front of House Manager organizes his/ her team of helpers to sell programmes, raffle tickets or to usher people to their seats.  As you can see you don’t need to act to belong to this highly successful and popular club.

If you want to act, but have missed the selection process for this season, please volunteer for one of these other roles, meet the members and become involved.  You will enjoy yourself in whatever capacity you find yourself.  We are a very friendly society and we organize many social events throughout the year.

Rehearsals take place in our own rehearsal studio in the Capita Performing Arts Centre, which has all the amenities an amateur drama club could wish for.  Performances take place in The Thwaites Empire Theatre, which has been professionally renovated over the last few years to give the Theatre Goer an enjoyable and exciting experience in a relaxing and congenial atmosphere.

Subscription is only £10  a year, which must make us one of the best value clubs to join!
