Well Done June 2011 Newsletter Picture

Our two most recent productions, "Bedroom Farce" and "Funny Money" became the latest in our long line of successes. Audience comments overheard on leaving the theatre were highly positive for both plays. So congratulations to Dorothy Perkins and Martyn Pugh and their wonderful casts for all their hard work and dedication. Thank you to Dorothy for stepping in at such short notice. This was Martyn's first time as Director, although he has performed in many of our productions, and our congratulations go to both him and Jane Berry, who also made her directorial debut with 'Separate Tables' earlier this year. We hope they go on to direct more productions for us in the future. Also, may we offer a warm welcome to all the new members who joined us this year. Whether on stage or behind the scenes, the standard was excellent.

The Annual General Meeting

The A.G.M. will take place on Thursday 7th July at the Capita Performing Arts Centre. Refreshments will be available We look forward to seeing you all.

Plays For Next Year

We have an excellent quartet for our 2011 / 2012 season

"A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg" by Peter Nichols. 3M 3F. (Plus 1 as Joe).

Joe Egg is the name Bri and Sheila have given their child. Joe has cerebral palsy, uses a wheelchair and is unable to communicate. To make life bearable they have evolved an elaborate and very funny series of fantasy games about Joe. But the years of devotion have created a terrible strain on their marriage and their despair leads to a shocking climax. Heartbreaking, darkly funny and controversial, this much loved play continues to enthral audiences all over the world.

"Salt Of The Earth" by John Godber. 5M 6F. Various simple settings.

The play spans three generations from 1947 to the present day. It is a touching portrait of life in the West Yorkshire coalfields. Capturing the dreams, ambitions, joys, hopes and fears as well as disappointments of the Parker sisters whose ambitions centre on Mary's son Paul and his academic success.

"Key For Two" by John Chapman and Dave Freeman. 3M 4F

John Chapman is generally reckoned to be one of the masters of farce, "Dry Rot" one of his earlier plays is a masterpiece of the genre. The play has a composite set.

Harriet solves her financial problems by entertaining two married gentlemen on different days. The scheme faces collapse when her friend Ann arrives hotly pursued by her husband. One of Harriet's lovers is confined to bed with a sprained ankle and the second lover turns up, closely followed by two irate wives in search of their itinerant husbands.

"Stringer's Last Stand" by Stan Barstow and Alfred Bradley. 3M 5F

A domineering father is caught having an affair and his daughters extract their revenge on him and his lover.

So there you have it. Copies of the plays will be available for you to peruse but of course there is information on the web.
