Below is a list of our plays for the 2011 / 2012 season. As usual, there is a mixture of comedy and drama with a touch of the unconventional. The plays cover the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s eras right through to the present day. You can be sure there is something for everyone in the selection below. "A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg" by Peter Nichols Joe Egg is the name Bri and Sheila have given their child. Joe has cerebral palsy, uses a wheelchair and is unable to communicate. To make life bearable they have evolved an elaborate and very funny series of fantasy games about Joe. But the years of devotion have created a terrible strain on their marriage and their despair leads to a shocking climax. Heartbreaking, darkly funny and controversial, this much loved play continues to enthral audiences all over the world. "Salt Of The Earth" by John Godber Set against the decline of the coal mining industry, this is a beautifully structured play that will have you laughing out loud one minute, then holding back the tears the next. Spanning three generations from 1947 to the present day It is a touching portrait of life in West Yorkshire. It captures the dreams, ambitions, joys, fears, heartaches and disappointments, of the Parker sisters and their brother. "Key For Two" by John Chapman and Dave Freeman 'A Frothy Farce' in which Harriet solves her financial problems by entertaining two married gentlemen on different days. The scheme faces collapse when her friend, Ann, arrives hotly pursued by her husband. One of Harriet's lovers is confined to bed with a sprained ankle and the second lover turns up, closely followed by two irate wives in search of their wayward husbands. "Stringer's Last Stand" by Stan Barstow and Alfred Bradley Luther Stringer is the domineering head of a working-class family of a wife and three daughters – one is married, one engaged and one a student. A hornets' nest is stirred up when the eldest daughter discovers something unexpectedly in her father's pocket! The women's reaction is instant and their vengeance terrible – the result is perhaps unwelcome, and certainly shakes up a Yorkshire household. |
